Our Causes: Food & Water for LGBTQ Lives at Risk

Food & Water cause

“We hid under a bridge for three nights. No food, no clean water—just fear. On the fourth day, a stranger gave us bread. I don’t know his name, but he saved our lives.”

The Crisis

In many Muslim-majority countries—including Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria—being LGBTQ+ is not just stigmatized; it is criminalized. Arrest, public shaming, forced “conversion,” and even execution remain real threats. For many, persecution leads to homelessness and hunger. Food and water are not just scarce—they are weapons. Families may refuse to feed LGBTQ+ relatives. Employers may deny pay. Shelters may turn people away.

The United Nations estimates that over 110 million people are forcibly displaced worldwide, and LGBTQ+ refugees face even greater challenges accessing nutrition. In some regions, survival means eating discarded scraps or drinking unsafe water—risking cholera, hepatitis, or severe dehydration.

What SanctuaryNow.gay Does

Our food and water programs are designed for speed, safety, and dignity. We operate discreet supply points in hostile environments, ensuring individuals at risk can receive nutrition without outing themselves.

Mobile Food Distribution

In Pakistan, we partner with trusted community members to deliver small, discreet food parcels—rice, lentils, bread—to LGBTQ+ people in hiding. Deliveries are timed at night to avoid suspicion.

Safe Water Access

In Somalia, we fund portable water filtration units for safe-house networks. These units turn contaminated water into safe drinking water within minutes—crucial in urban areas where police raids can cut people off from public taps.

Emergency Nutrition for Displaced Individuals

In Egypt, where many LGBTQ+ refugees from Sudan arrive malnourished, we coordinate with underground clinics to provide high-calorie nutritional supplements, rehydration salts, and basic medical checks.

Impact Stories

“Rafiq” – Yemen
Rafiq fled his coastal hometown after being outed by a neighbor. For weeks he lived in abandoned buildings, eating only once every two days. Through a local contact, we delivered survival rations—rice, oil, and canned fish—that kept him alive until safe passage to a neighboring country was arranged.

“Maryam & Aisha” – Nigeria
After their arrest at a private gathering, Maryam and Aisha were released but disowned by their families. They were forced to sleep in markets and scavenge leftovers. SanctuaryNow.gay’s discreet market voucher program allowed them to buy fresh food without revealing their identities to hostile vendors.

How Donations Are Used

  • 40% – Purchase of food staples (rice, beans, flour, cooking oil, nutritional supplements)
  • 30% – Safe water initiatives (filtration units, bottled water delivery, purification tablets)
  • 15% – Discreet transport and distribution logistics
  • 10% – Emergency medical and nutritional support
  • 5% – Monitoring, reporting, and operational transparency

We publish quarterly reports with anonymized metrics. Example: Q1 2025 — 2,500 meals distributed across 6 countries; 14 portable water units deployed; 110 individuals placed on sustained food aid programs.

Why Your Help Matters Now

Hunger kills quietly but quickly. A missed meal today means less strength to escape danger tomorrow. Without clean water, a single infection can become deadly when medical help is inaccessible. Every day we delay, more LGBTQ+ lives are lost—not to violence, but to starvation and thirst.

Call to Action

You can save lives today. Your donation funds the next meal, the next safe drink of water, the next step toward survival. Give now, share our mission with your networks, and stand with us in advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and safety in Muslim-majority countries.
